The New Era High School
is located
in Panchgani, a modern hill station town well-known as an
educational centre containing well-established schools, in the
state of Maharashtra. Founded in August 1945, this school was
one of the first Bahá'í education projects in India. Over more
than half a century since then, it has grown and flourished,
becoming a highly respected private academy, drawing students
from all over the world.
In addition to academic excellence, the school has long given a
high priority to moral education and the promotion of values for
world citizenship. Of equal significance, it has been a proving
ground for early Bahá'í efforts at promoting social and economic
development in rural areas.
In the 1970s and 1980s, the school gradually began to establish
a series of outreach programmes aimed at assisting poor and
underdeveloped villages in the region. The programme was started
as a service project for students. Over the years, these efforts
became formalized and finally evolved into a separate
institution known as the New Era Development Institute in 1987.
The new Era High School has a very good track record as an
academic school, but its primary aim is to inculcate in its
pupils high moral values and an attitude of service to the
community."Regard man
as a mine rich in gems of inestimable value. Education can,
alone, cause it to reveal its treasures, and enable mankind to
benefit therefrom."
